Our friendly backpackers and motel is situated in Surat Bay/ New Haven in The Catlins, near Owaka with direct access to a beautiful beach (Surat Bay) inhabited by native New Zealand Sea Lions.  This is a spectacular and inspiring place to base yourself for a few days, and experience one of New Zealand’s finest natural havens of wonderful scenery and wildlife in its native environment.

We are 5 kilometres from Owaka (the main town in the Catlins) and off the Southern Scenic Route that runs between Te Anau, Invercargill and Dunedin.

By Car: If coming from the north follow the Southern Scenic Route from Dunedin to Balclutha and then to Owaka. If coming from the west follow the Southern Scenic Route from Invercargill to Owaka. From Owaka follow the signs to Surat Bay & New Haven.

By Bus: Intercity Buses operates bus services to Balclutha. Alternatively, Cheeky Kiwi Travel offers transport options through the area. Check directly with each provider for current routes, timetables and prices.
